Saya Yamaguchi

Born in Kyoto, Saya Yamaguchi graduated with Master Degree in Fine Arts, Ceramic at Kyoto Seika University, Japan. Over the last 11 years, she has been a very active ceramic artist and has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions including her 12 solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Singapore.

Saya, being trained in pottery in Japan, has been living in Singapore for the past 3 years. She is inspired by our Singapore’s unique culture. She likens herself to a special guest who visits our home, staying over for a night or two, experiencing Singapore from the eyes of a visitor.

In 3 Storeys, Saya comments that Tiong Bahru is so "different" from all other estates she has visited in Singapore. The older generation, especially, have appealed to her.

Introducing the traditional tea ceremony, Saya has created a series of Tiong Bahru-inspired teapots and cups with a Japanese touch.
